6th International Academic Symposium LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND REGULATION OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS: TOWARDS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

Serbian Spatial Planners Association and University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography are organizing the 6th International Academic Symposium “LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND REGULATION OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS: TOWARDS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION”, in Vršac, from 2.-4. june 2016.

Serbia open chapters in European Union membership negotiations. Our country has begun the process of harmonization with essential standards and norms of the European Union member countries. This fact, along with the transition that has been going on for years in Serbia, which produced a mosaic of spatial and developmental problems, in a special way deepens an existing and imposes new challenges for the local community and motivated the preparation and organization of a special symposium on the topic “Local self-government in planning and regulation of space and settlements: towards European integration”.

It is obvious that space of local communities in Serbia, its design and development, in the upcoming period will be largely determined by the requirements arising from so-called takeover obligations of membership, but also significant opportunities offered by European integration.

Experiences and examples of good practice which will be presented during the symposium can be the basis for improvement and development of domestic science and practice, and significant contribution to governing structures at all levels, especially authority at the local level in solving the problems they face.

Positive experiences from previous five symposiums present a good precondition for the organization of yet another successful symposium. Therefore, having in mind the importance of the above mentioned topics, we invite you to take part in this symposium and contribute to its success.

IX scientific-professional conference with international participation “LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND ARRANGEMENT OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS”, Srebrno jezero, June 16-18, 2022

Serbian Spatial Planners Association and the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Municipality of Veliko Gradiste, are organizing the ninth scientific-professional conference with international participation “LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT IN PLANNING AND ARRANGEMENT OF SPACE AND SETTLEMENTS”, Srebrno jezero, June 16-18, 2022.

The whole mosaic of spatial and development problems, in a special way, deepens the existing and imposes new challenges for local communities, which motivated us to, in addition to traditional topics related to the legal and institutional framework of planning and arrangement of space and settlements, as well as creating spatial and urban plans, this time we pay special attention to the issue of defining public interest in spatial and urban planning, rural development planning, as well as the impact of demographic and migration processes on the development of local communities.

In that regard, we expect that the practical experiences and conclusions that will be presented will provide a quality basis for the advancement and development of science and practice and make a significant contribution to management structures at all levels of government, especially local authorities in solving problems that they have been facing.

In parallel with the Conference, the exhibition Planners Networking 4 will be organized, where spatial and urban planning institutions from Serbia and the surrounding countries will have the opportunity to present planning documents of all levels adopted in the period from 2018 to 2022.

Positive experiences from the previous eight conferences are a good precondition for organizing another successful one.

Therefore, having in mind the importance and actuality of the topics, we invite you to take part in the conference and contribute to its successful implementation and formation of quality conclusions that will enable further affirmation and improvement of planning and arrangement of space and development of local self-government.
